An AAAA record is an IP address in the newly introduced IPv6 format and it is comprised of eight sets of hexadecimal numbers, in contrast to the IPv4 IPs, that include four sets of digits between 1 and 255. A good example of an IPv6 address would be 3014:0d43:23a3:2354:1320:8f3b:2635:3254 and with this format the sheer number of IPs that could be created is many times higher than the number of the IPv4 addresses. Each domain has its hosting server Internet protocol as a record and in essence, this unique record instructs the domain address where the site for it is. Depending on the system the provider employs, the record is going to be called A (IPv4) or AAAA (IPv6). Changing this record allows you to host your site with one provider and your e-mails with another, so if you decide to use this type of redirection to forward a domain name to a server that uses an IPv6 address, you will need to set up an AAAA record for it.

AAAA Records in Shared Hosting

If you need to create a new AAAA record a domain address or subdomain hosted within your shared hosting account, it won't take you more than a few simple steps to do that. Our in-house built Hepsia CP is extremely intuitive to use and is going to allow you to create or edit every single record effortlessly. Once you sign in and go to the DNS Records section, in which you'll discover all current records for your domain names and subdomains, you'll simply have to click the "New" button, choose AAAA from a small drop-down menu inside the pop-up which will show up, input or paste the necessary IPv6 address and save the modification - it is as easy as that. The new record shall be 100% active within no more than one hour and the hostname you have created it for is going to start opening whatever content you have with the other provider. If necessary, you'll also be able to edit the TTL (Time To Live) value, which indicates the time in seconds that the new record will be active after you eventually modify it to something different or you simply remove it.

AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you've got a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need to set up an AAAA record for a domain you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've set up, it'll take you just a few mouse clicks inside the Hepsia CP to achieve that. Even when you have never had a hosting account before, you will not encounter any problems because you will use a very simple and user-friendly interface. All DNS records for your domains will be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the exact same name, so when you go there, you will notice all records which have been set up automatically or manually and you will be able to set up a new one by simply clicking on the corresponding button. A small pop-up shall appear, so with just a couple of clicks you can pick the type of record you require and for which domain name or subdomain it'll be set up. Afterwards, simply paste the IPv6 address in a text box, save the modification and an hour later the new AAAA record will be 100% live. As an optional setting, you can pick how long this record shall be active after you modify it or remove it in the future. That is the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can change from the default 3600 seconds if the other company needs it.
