Transferring an active domain involves changing the domain registrar that handles the domain registration service, so after the transfer, you will have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS modifications through the new domain registrar. The transfer process itself is standard with most TLD extensions. Some country-code extensions are more specific and involve different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain entails several necessary steps and one of them is unlocking the domain. The lock is a security option, which is being adopted by more and more domain registry operators. It’s a default feature supported by all generic TLDs. If a domain name is locked, it will be impossible to start a transfer procedure, so no one can even attempt to take your domain. The domain lock can be removed only through the account where the domain is registered in the first place and all new domains that support this option are locked by default the moment they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Shared Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain registered through our company is very easy. This can be done through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our shared hosting, and will take exactly two clicks of the mouse. All your domains will be shown in alphabetical order in the Domain Manager section of the Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the domain lock option, you will notice a padlock-like sign. Click on it once and you will see the domain’s present status. Click for the second time and you’ll change its status. The change will propagate instantaneously without the need for you or for us to do anything else for the status to be ‘refreshed’ on WHOIS lookup sites, so you can proceed with the transfer procedure straight away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Administering your domain names with us is unbelievably easy and the registrar lock option makes no exception. If you have a semi-dedicated server account, you’ll be able to manage the domains registered through our company using the very same Control Panel via which you’ll manage your hosting account. For the sake of convenience, the domain names will be displayed in alphabetical order and on the right you will see a padlock icon in case the given domain supports the registrar lock feature. If you click the icon, you’ll find out whether the specific domain is locked or not and you’ll be able to modify this status by clicking once again. The status will be updated right away and you’ll be able to initiate the domain name transfer process without the need to wait for the update to be shown on WHOIS lookup websites or for us to do anything on our end.
